Registered Massage Therapy & Fascial Mobilization
Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage therapy is a clinically-oriented healthcare option that helps alleviate the discomfort associated with every day occupational stresses, muscular over-use, physical manifestation of mental/emotional stress and many chronic pain conditions. Massage Therapy can be an important part of your health maintenance plan by reducing or eliminating pain, reducing soft tissue tension, increasing mobility, improving circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Fascial mobility is a series of techniques used to help facilitate the mobilization of layers of connective tissue past one another and can have an impact on associated musculature, nervous system, blood flow, movement of interstitial fluid and the lymphatic system. Fascia is a sheath-like layer of connective tissue that surrounds everything in the body creating a three dimensional interconnecting living body suit. Injury, trauma, infections, and/or posture can cause the fascial layers to become restricted potentially placing stress on other soft tissues which begin to compensate resulting in increased pain and decreased function.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on manual therapy that has become popular for providing relief from a variety of acute and chronic conditions including headaches, pain, trauma, TMJ, stress disorders and side effects of cancer treatment among many others. CST uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of fluids in the environment of the central nervous system. Soft tissue restrictions can be detected by noting distortions of movement within this system. CST is a whole body treatment that uses the cranial bones, spine, sacrum, pelvis and limbs as levers to detect limitations in movement. The focus of CST is to assist the release and mobility of the body’s connective tissue network. The goal is to restore full motion by releasing restrictions and optimizing movement . CST is based on the idea that the body is interrelated at all levels. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health. CST is thought to improve efficiency of biological processes through boosting inherent self-regulation, self-correction and self-healing. CST can be used successfully with children and adults.
Visceral Mobilization
A form of manual therapy consisting of gentle, specifically placed manual forces that encourage mobility, tone, and inherent tissue motion of the viscera, their connective tissue and other areas of the body where motion has been impaired. The term coined for this therapy is called Visceral Manipulation (VM). VM focuses on the internal organs, their environment, and the potential influence on many structural and physiological dysfunctions. Tissues lose their normal motion when they become inflamed. The natural healing process involves local disruption of normal tissue fibers and their replacement with relatively inelastic granular tissue. Many factors can cause tissue inflammation including: infections, direct trauma, repetitious movement, diet, environmental toxins and emotional stress. The purpose of VM is to re-create, harmonize, and increase proprioceptive communication in the body to enhance its internal mechanism for better health and relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture. Visceral Manipulation treats a person's functional and structural imbalances with an aim to affect their musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive, and lymphatic function.
Energy Healing
Usui Reiki ++
Energy healing is a field of complimentary therapy based on the interactions of the human energy field. The human body is surrounded by and emits various kinds of energy: electrical, magnetic, light and subtle. Health and dis-ease appear to be related to the flow or lack of flow of our energetic system. Modern quantum physics provide the framework for energy medicine and healing. Einstein demonstrated that matter and energy are interchangeable. Reiki is a Japanese lineage and healing art used to promote relaxation and stress reduction. Reiki is thought to promote natural healing by increasing a rest and restorative aspect of the nervous system. The theory of energy healing is based on the idea that life force energy (chi, ki, prana) flows through each of us. If this life force energy is compromised, we may be more prone to stress, illness or other ailments. When this energy is high and flowing freely, we are better able to achieve wellness and experience a deeper sense of self love and joy.
I am a facilitator of energy movement and use various modalities such as Reiki to bring the body into a relaxed self regulated state. This type of therapy is beneficial for mental/emotional stress, nervous system regulation, self awareness, trauma resolution, grief and for individuals on a healing journey of self exploration.
